Avenel (NJT station) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Avenel (NJT station)
Avenel is a lightly used New Jersey Transit commuter rail station located in the Avenel section of Woodbridge, New Jersey. On weekdays, it sees 7 northbound and 14 southbound trains stop. There is no weekend service. It is located on the North Jersey Coast Line between Rahway and Woodbridge stations. The station is one of three located in Woodbridge, with the Woodbridge station joining it on the North Jersey Coast Line and Metropark Station serving the Iselin section of Woodbridge on the Northeast Corridor Line. Avenel station had been slated for closing by former Gov. Corzine because of the excessive costs of adding elevators for handicapped access. The station was saved by the community's recommendation that ramps be used instead. The station was the site of an accident in which New Jersey Transit train 2303 hit and killed 12-year-old Ashlyn Ferriero. The girl, an Avenel Middle School student, had been playing with four of her friends on the railway and was unable to pull herself up onto the platform as the train was approaching. The train's engineer noticed the girls on the track and applied the vehicle's emergency brake, but the system was unable to stop the train in time.〔Heininger, Claire (2007).
